Dear Mom,
I hope this letter finds you in good health and spirits. I want to thank you for your loving concern about my future and the profession I wish to pursue after leaving secondary school. Your support and guidance have always meant the world to me, and I am excited to share my thoughts on this important matter.
After much contemplation and self-reflection, I have decided that my preferred profession is to become a Clinical Psychologist. This decision is not made hastily, but after careful consideration of my passions, strengths, and the impact I wish to make on the lives of others.
The reasons behind my choice are multifold and deeply rooted in my interests and aptitude. Firstly, I have always had a keen interest in understanding the complexities of the human mind and behavior. Psychology has fascinated me since I was young, and as I grew older, I delved deeper into the subject through books, online courses, and discussions with professionals in the field. The human mind is a puzzle, and the thought of exploring and helping others navigate through their thoughts and emotions is incredibly fulfilling to me.
Furthermore, I have a natural ability to empathize and connect with people on an emotional level. Many of my friends have confided in me during difficult times, seeking advice and a listening ear. Being able to provide comfort and support to them has given me a sense of purpose and satisfaction. As a Clinical Psychologist, I can utilize this innate skill to create a positive impact on the mental well-being of individuals, fostering growth, and helping them lead healthier and happier lives.
In addition to my personal interests, I have excelled academically in subjects related to psychology and social sciences. My teachers have often praised my analytical and critical thinking abilities, which are essential traits for a successful psychologist. I believe my strengths align perfectly with the requirements of this profession, and I am eager to further develop my knowledge and expertise in the field.
Moreover, the demand for mental health professionals is steadily increasing, and I want to contribute to addressing the mental health challenges faced by individuals and society as a whole. Mental health is a crucial aspect of overall well-being, and I feel a strong sense of responsibility to be part of the solution. Through my work, I hope to break down the stigma surrounding mental health issues and promote a society that is more understanding and compassionate.
Finally, the prospect of continuous learning excites me. Psychology is a field that is constantly evolving with new research and discoveries. Pursuing a career as a Clinical Psychologist would afford me the opportunity to engage in ongoing education, attend seminars, and collaborate with other professionals, enriching my knowledge and skills throughout my career.
I understand that the path to becoming a Clinical Psychologist is challenging, requiring years of education and training. However, I am committed to putting in the effort and dedication needed to achieve this goal. With your unwavering support and encouragement, I am confident that I can overcome any obstacles that may come my way.
Thank you once again for always being there for me and for supporting me in this critical decision-making process. Your love and guidance have shaped me into the person I am today. I hope you will stand by my side as I embark on this journey to pursue my dream of becoming a Clinical Psychologist and making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
With all my love and gratitude,

Once upon a time, in a quaint village nestled between lush green hills, there lived a humble farmer named Thomas. He was known far and wide for his generosity and willingness to help others. The saying “Charity begins at home” was one of his guiding principles, which he instilled in his three children – Emily, Daniel, and Sarah.
Thomas’ farm yielded bountiful crops, and the village thrived due to his hard work and dedication. However, despite their abundance, he always made sure to share the surplus with those less fortunate. Whenever someone in the village fell on hard times, Thomas and his family were the first to offer a helping hand.
One chilly winter morning, news spread that a severe storm had struck the neighboring village, leaving several families homeless and without food. Thomas gathered his family around the fireplace and said, “My dear children, it’s time to practice what we preach. Charity begins at home, and it’s our duty to assist our neighbors in need.”
Emily, the eldest daughter, agreed wholeheartedly, and Daniel and Sarah nodded in agreement. They all knew that their father’s compassionate nature had shaped their characters and taught them the true meaning of empathy.
The family began their charity work by donating warm blankets, clothes, and essential supplies from their own home. Emily helped organize the distribution, while Daniel and Sarah packed the items with care. The neighbors joined in, witnessing the selfless act of the Thomas family and contributing to the cause.
As the winter passed, the neighboring village slowly regained its strength, and the grateful villagers praised Thomas and his family for their immense support. But their acts of kindness didn’t end there. They continued to assist those in need within their village too.
One day, a massive fire broke out on the outskirts of Thomas’ village, threatening to engulf homes and farmlands. The entire village was in panic, and everyone tried their best to save their properties. Thomas’ family rushed to the scene, but instead of joining the rescue efforts, they prepared food and water for the exhausted firefighters and victims.
When the fire was finally brought under control, the firefighters and the distressed villagers were famished. Thomas and his family went around distributing food and water, comforting those who lost their homes, and even offering temporary shelter at their farmhouse.
Over time, Thomas’ children began to comprehend the true depth of the saying “Charity begins at home.” They realized that it wasn’t just about helping others but about creating a culture of compassion and kindness within their own community.
The children grew up embodying their father’s virtues and passed on the values of selflessness to their own families. The Thomas family became a beacon of hope and inspiration for the entire region. Their village flourished not just because of their agricultural prosperity but because of the unity and compassion that bound its people together.
Generations came and went, but the legacy of the Thomas family endured. The saying “Charity begins at home” echoed through time, reminding everyone that the seeds of kindness sown within the confines of one’s home can blossom into a garden of love and support for the entire world.

Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed judges, and fellow debaters, today I stand before you to argue against the proposition that the establishment of Federal Government Colleges in Nigeria is a blessing to the Nigerian child. While these institutions may have initially been intended to provide high-quality education to the Nigerian youth they have failed to live up to this promise and instead have created a number of issues that negatively impact the Nigerian child.
Firstly the entrance examination that students are required to pass in order to gain admission into these Federal Government Colleges is extremely competitive and often based on rote memorization rather than actual aptitude or intelligence. This puts undue pressure on young children and creates a culture of intense competition that can have long-lasting negative effects on their mental health and self-esteem. Moreover those who are unable to secure admission to these schools are left with limited options for quality education perpetuating inequality in access to education.
Secondly many Federal Government Colleges are located in urban areas which means that children from rural areas often have to travel long distances to attend these schools. This can be both physically and emotionally challenging for young children who are forced to leave the comfort and familiarity of their homes and communities. Moreover the cost of transportation and boarding facilities can be prohibitive for many families resulting in further inequity in access to education.
Furthermore the facilities and resources in Federal Government Colleges are often inadequate to meet the needs of the students. Classrooms are overcrowded libraries are understocked and there is a lack of necessary equipment for practical subjects such as science and technology. This hinders the holistic development of the Nigerian child and limits their potential to excel in their studies and future careers.
Additionally the strict disciplinary measures enforced in Federal Government Colleges can have a detrimental effect on the psychological well-being of the students. Punishments such as physical beatings or humiliation are used as a means of maintaining discipline which not only violates the rights of the child but also creates a hostile learning environment that is not conducive to academic growth.
Lastly Federal Government Colleges often fail to provide a well-rounded education that includes the promotion of cultural diversity and individual talents. The curriculum is often rigidly focused on academic subjects neglecting the arts sports and other extracurricular activities that are crucial for the holistic development of a child’s personality. This leaves students with limited avenues to explore their interests and develop their skills beyond the confines of the classroom.
In conclusion the establishment of Federal Government Colleges in Nigeria is not a blessing to the Nigerian child. These institutions perpetuate inequality in access to education create a highly competitive and stressful environment for young children often lack adequate facilities and resources enforce strict and often abusive disciplinary measures and fail to provide a well-rounded education. It is essential that we prioritize the holistic development and well-being of our children and work towards a more inclusive and equitable education system that truly benefits all Nigerian children.

Indiscipline among Secondary School Students and Ways of Curbing it.
Discipline is the key to success in every aspect of life. The importance of discipline cannot be overemphasized, especially in the life of a student. Secondary school is a critical stage in the life of a student, where they are expected to learn and develop the right values and attitudes that will shape their future. Unfortunately, indiscipline has become a major problem among secondary school students. This problem has become a source of concern for parents, teachers, and the society at large. Therefore, there is a need to find ways of curbing indiscipline among secondary school students.
Indiscipline is a behavior that is contrary to the rules and regulations that govern the school environment. It ranges from minor offenses like lateness to school, truancy, disobedience, and disrespect to teachers, to more serious offenses like drug abuse, violence, and theft. Indiscipline is a major problem that affects the academic performance of students, as well as their social and emotional well-being. It also affects the overall image of the school, and it can lead to a breakdown of law and order if not properly addressed.
One of the ways of curbing indiscipline among secondary school students is through effective counseling and guidance services. Counseling and guidance services are essential in helping students to develop the right attitudes and values that will enable them to make the right decisions. Counselors should be available to students at all times, to listen to their problems and offer advice. They should also organize seminars and workshops to educate students on the dangers of indiscipline, and the importance of discipline in achieving their goals.
Another way of curbing indiscipline among secondary school students is through the use of positive reinforcement. Positive reinforcement is a technique whereby students are rewarded for positive behavior. This technique has been found to be effective in promoting discipline among students. Teachers and parents should identify and acknowledge the positive behavior of students, and reward them accordingly. This will encourage students to continue to exhibit positive behavior, and discourage them from engaging in negative behavior.
Furthermore, there is a need to create a conducive learning environment that promotes discipline among students. The school environment should be clean, safe, and well-maintained. The school should also have clear rules and regulations that are communicated to students, and enforced consistently. Teachers should be trained to handle disciplinary issues effectively, and parents should be involved in the disciplinary process. This will create a sense of responsibility among students, and encourage them to take ownership of their behavior.
